1．研究会の概要
本研究会では，大学における英文ライティング指導のあり方と実践的指導法について考え，研究を行っています。過去1５冊の紀要を発行し，2023年度からは新規研究プロジェクトである「英語教育の転換期におけるライティング指導再考：学習コミュニティの形成と学生の学び」について探求していきます。
2．2021年度の活動報告
「遠隔授業でのライティング指導」について，理解と実践を深めて，New Normal 時代のライティング教育を探求しました。例会は4月，７月，９月，12月，３月と計５回，オンライン形式で開催しました。また，１０月に実施された支部講演会では，上記のテーマについて発表を行いました。
3. 2022年度の活動報告
研究プロジェクトである「遠隔授業でのライティング指導」に関しての成果を2023年３月に紀要１５号として発刊しました。例会は4月，７月，９月，12月と計４回オンライン形式で開催し，３月に学術英語学会との共催セミナーをオンラインで開催しました。

5．新入会希望者へのメッセージ
日本の高等教育機関では，ライティング力はあまり重視されてきませんでしたが，欧米の高等教育機関では，ライティング力は，自らの学業を進める上で，不可欠のスキルとして位置づけられています。本研究会では，この重要なライティング力を向上させるためには，どのような指導をしたらよいのかを，様々な角度から長年研究してきました。その一つとして，2007年に，ルーブリック（評価表）を作成し，そのルーブリックを教育現場で使えるものにするために，いくつかの研究を行いました。大学教育の転換期の中でのライティング指導に関心のある方のご参加をお待ちしています。

1. Main Theme
Our research group studies English writing instruction in universities, considering both theory and practice. Based on our activities, we have to date published 15 issues of our biennial Bulletin of the Writing Research Group, JACET Kansai Chapter, with original research articles and notes by our members. Starting in the 2023 academic year we will explore a new research project, “Rethinking Writing Instruction at a Time of Transition in English Language Education: Focusing on Student Learning and Building Learning Communities.”
2. Summary of Activities in 2021
We explored writing education in a “New Normal” era of online classes by deepening our understanding and practice related to our research project topic of “Writing Instruction in Distance Learning.” Five meetings were held in April, July, September, December, and March in an online format. In addition, presentations on the above theme were made at the JACET Kansai Chapter conference held in October.
3. Summary of Activities in 2022
The results of our 2021 – 2022 research project, “Writing Instruction in Distance Learning,” were published as Bulletin No. 15 in March 2023. We held four online meetings in April, July, September, and December, and a joint seminar with the Japan Society of English for Research was held online in March 2023.
4. Plans for 2023
For the period 2023 – 2024, we will explore a new research project, “Rethinking Writing Instruction at a Time of Transition in English Language Education: Focusing on Student Learning and Building Learning Communities.” Meetings will be held online in April, July, September, December, and March.
5. Message to Prospective Members
Writing has generally not been considered a priority in Japanese higher education institutions, although in North America, Europe and many other parts of the world, writing skills are regarded as essential for students’ learning in their academic careers. We have been researching for many years now from a wide range of perspectives on how to teach writing in order to improve students’ skills. As one product of this research, in 2007 we successfully created a rubric to guide and evaluate student writing and conducted several studies to develop a useable classroom tool for teachers and students. Similarly, in light of the current technological, social, and related developments before us, we welcome new members who are interested in research on teaching writing in this period of transition in higher education.
