１．研究会の概要

本研究会は、大学および小・中・高においてより良い英語授業をデザインするために
、各メンバーによる授業実践・研究の成果の共有、メンバー間の情報共有、輪読を通し
た学び、JACET国際大会やJAAL in JACET等での発表・ワークショップ開催などを行って
います。

メンバーは関西支部会員が中心ですが、代表・副代表を含め、関東や中部からの参加
者もあります。研究会の開催形式はオンラインを中心としていますが、年に１～２回は
対面で開催し、親睦を深めつつ和気あいあいとした雰囲気で活動を続けています。参加
者は大学教員が中心ではあるものの、小・中・高教員、あるいは学習塾等の教員も広く
受け入れています。

研究会は概ね2か月に1回、主に土曜日または日曜日に開催しています。輪読をする文
献の選考を含め、研究会の内容はメンバー全員で協議しながら進めています。また、機
会あれば著名な研究者をお招きし、学びを深める機会としています。

研究会の活動状況はFacebookおよび研究会ウェブサイトにて報告を行っています。また、活動の成果については研究論集を年1回発行しており、すでに第4号を数えています。研究論集はISSNの取得を視野に入れて準備中です。

２．2023年度の活動報告

2023年度は第41回～第46回の研究会を開催しました。「学修者中心の学び」という研究
テーマのもと、研究会において「学修者中心の学び」の捉え方の考察を継続しました。
また、その考察に基づく個々のメンバーの実践報告と意見交換を重ねました。
その考察と実践を「授業学（関西）研究会　第3号研究論集」としてまとめ、2023年12
月に刊行しました。

2023年度に、JACET国際大会2023においてワークショップに採択頂き、「学修者中心の
学び」について参加くださった方々と考察を行いました。ご参加くださった方々で会場
が満席になり、参加者を交えた活発な議論も行えました。授業観の新しい発見や自身の
授業を改めて振り返る良い機会になったなどの講評を多くいただきました。

国際大会におけるワークショップで得た発見や経験から、2024年3月大学教育研究フォ
ーラム（京都大学）参加者企画セッションに応募し、3月14日150分枠で「学修者中心の
学びの意味と実践」というテーマのもと12名のメンバーが登壇し、考察と実践を発表し
ました。また、参加くださった方々と同テーマに関する捉え方や実践について意見交換
することができました。

本研究会を立ち上げた2015年以来、これまでFacebook　　https://www.facebook.com/jyugyougakukansai.2015を通して情報公開を
行ってきましたが、研究活動だけでなくこれまで2021年から毎年刊行してきた論集第1
号～第3号の公開も目的とした2024年1月からウエブページ「JACET授業学（関西）研究

私たちの研究が英語教育のさらなる充実につながる一助となることを願って研究を行っ
ています。研究メンバーには関西圏以外の関東圏のメンバーも参加いただいていること
や日程調整が難しいこともあるため、コロナ禍以来、土曜ないしは日曜日にオンライン
中心の会合となっていますが、徐々にハイブリッド式を導入した対面による研究会の回
数を増やしていきます。活動見学など気軽にご参加ください。

３. 2024年度の活動予定

本研究会では、2024年度は2023年度から継続で「学習者主体の学び」について考察し
実践を試みました。

研究メンバーの中に英語科教育法などの教職課程生への指導を担当する者から、受講
生がこれまで学んできた学習経験（指導教師の指導法）から離れることができず、その
教師主体の学習形態から離れることができないことが指摘されています。この授業観を変えるために大学における授業においても学習者中心の学びを実現する必要があることを研究課題としています。

この学習者主体の学びへのパラダイムシフトを阻む要因を考察するため『学習者主体
の学びのためのインストラクショナルデザイン理論とモデル』（2020,　北大路書房）
を輪読本として考察しました。この研究は2025年度も継続して行う予定です。

また、これらの研究成果としてJACET国際大会　ワークショップ、大学教育研究フォ
ーラム　参加参加者企画セッション等で研究発表を行い、授業学（関西）研究会　第4
号研究論集に原稿を集め発行しました。

4．2025年度の予定

本研究会は、「学習者中心の学び―インストラクショナルデザイン理論を中心に―」
をテーマとして活動を行っています。

特に、教職課程において英語科教育法等を担当するメンバーから、学習者がこれまで受けてきた「教師主体」の授業スタイルからなかなか脱却できないという課題が指摘されています。これを踏まえ、大学における授業実践においても「学習者中心の学び」を実現する必要性が高まっています。本研究会では、その実現のために必要な授業デザインのあり方について、インストラクショナルデザイン理論をもとに考察・実践を進めています。

開催予定日程：
年5回、2か月に1回程度の頻度で開催予定
（4月・6月・8月・10月・12月の土曜または日曜）

開催場所：
基本的にオンライン開催。
対面開催の場合は大阪府または京都府にて実施しますが、関西圏以外からの参加者にも配慮し、可能な限りハイブリッド形式で対応します。

5．新入会希望者へのメッセージ

「教員になったのはいいけれど、自分の授業に自信が持てない」「この授業のやり方
で本当にいいのか疑問に思う」「他の先生方がどんな授業をしているのか知りたい」「
より良い授業を展開するために考えるべきことは何かを知りたい」…校種を問わず、教
員として生活していくうえで、授業の質を高めていこうとする姿勢は欠かせませんが、
それをどう実現していくのかを考える機会は意外と少ないのではないでしょうか。

本研究会では、多様なバックグラウンドを持ったメンバーが集まって、より良い授業
をデザインするために、メンバーによる授業実践・研究の成果の共有、輪読、JACET国
際大会やJAAL in JACET等での発表・ワークショップ開催などを行いながら、多面的な
議論を深めています。研究会はオンラインが中心ですが、ときどき対面でも実施し、親
睦を深めつつ和気あいあいと活動しています。活動内容についても、メンバーからの提
案を積極的に受け入れながら進めています。校種や所属支部を問わず、多くの皆さまの
ご参加をお待ちしております！

1. Main Theme

This SIG aims to design better English language classes at universities and
elementary, junior high, and high schools by sharing the members’ classroom
practices and research, fostering information exchange among members,
promoting learning through group reading, and organizing presentations and
workshops at events such as the JACET International Convention and JAAL in
JACET.

While the majority of members are from the Kansai Chapter, there are also
participants from the Kanto and Chubu regions, including the chair and vice-
chair. The study group primarily meets online, but holds one or two in-person
meetings per year to foster camaraderie and maintain a relaxed atmosphere.
While university faculty members make up the majority of participants, we also
welcome elementary, junior high, and high school teachers, as well as teachers
from cram schools and other educational institutions.

The study meetings are held approximately once every two months, mainly on
Saturdays or Sundays. The content of the meetings, including the selection of
literature for group reading, is decided through discussions among all
members. Additionally, we invite renowned researchers when possible to provide
opportunities for further study. The activities of the study group are
reported on Facebook and the SIG’s website. Furthermore, the outcomes of the
activities are published in an annual research journal, with the fourth issue
already published. The research journal is currently in preparation with the
aim of obtaining an ISSN number.

2. Summary of Activities in 2023

In 2023, we held our 41st through 46th meetings. Under the research theme of “Learner-Centered Learning,” we continued to explore how this concept can be understood and implemented. Each meeting featured members’ reports on their practices based on these considerations, followed by active discussions.

These insights and practices were compiled into our third research bulletin, Lesson Studies (Kansai) SIG Bulletin, No.3, published in December 2023.

In the same year, we were selected to hold a workshop at the JACET 2023 International Convention, where we explored the theme of “learner-centered learning” with participants. The session was at full capacity and involved lively discussions with attendees. We received many positive comments, including that the workshop prompted participants to reconsider their own classroom approaches and offered new insights into teaching perspectives.

Building on the insights gained from the international conference, we submitted a proposal for a participant-organized session at the 2024 University Education Research Forum (Kyoto University). On March 14, twelve members presented their thoughts and practices in a 150-minute session titled “The Meaning and Practice of Learner-Centered Learning.” We also engaged in a productive exchange of ideas with participants on this theme.

We hope that our research will contribute to further enriching English education. As our members are not limited to Kansai but also include those from the Kanto region, and since scheduling can be challenging, meetings have been mainly held online on weekends since the COVID-19 pandemic. However, we plan to gradually increase the number of hybrid or in-person meetings. We warmly welcome anyone interested to observe or join our activities.

3. Summary of Activities in 2024

In the 2024 academic year, the SIG continued its inquiry and practical exploration of “learner-centered learning,” building on work initiated in 2023.

Among the members were university instructors responsible for teaching English teaching methodology courses to pre-service teacher training students. It was pointed out that many of these students were unable to break away from the teacher-centered learning approaches they themselves had experienced in the past. As a result, they tended to remain bound by teacher-led instructional styles. Changing this perception of teaching was considered an important research issue, and realizing learner-centered learning in university classes became a key objective of the SIG.

To examine the barriers to this paradigm shift, the group conducted a group reading and discussion of the book Instructional Design Theories and Models for Learner-Centered Learning (2020, Kita Koji Shobo) as a central text. This line of research was planned to continue into the 2025 academic year.

The outcomes of this research were shared through workshops at the JACET International Convention and participant-organized sessions at the University Education Research Forum, among other venues. Additionally, the findings were compiled and published in the SIG’s annual bulletin, Lesson Studies (Kansai) SIG Bulletin, Issue No. 4.

4. Plans for 2025

Theme:
“Learner-Centered Learning – With a Focus on Instructional Design Theories.”

Our core aim is to explore and implement learner-centered approaches in educational practice, particularly within English education across various educational levels. The group investigates how to overcome the persistence of teacher-centered learning styles, especially among pre-service teachers, by promoting instructional design models that place learners at the center of the classroom experience.

Meeting Schedule:
Regular meetings are held every two months, typically on Saturdays or Sundays in April, June, August, October, and December.

Venue:
Meetings are primarily held online. When in-person meetings occur, they are hosted in Osaka or Kyoto. However, we strive to provide hybrid formats to accommodate members participating from outside the Kansai area.

5. Message to Prospective Members

“I’m glad I became a teacher, but I’m not confident in my teaching methods.
I wonder if my teaching methods are effective.” “I want to know what other
teachers are doing in their classes.” “What should I consider in order to
deliver better lessons?” Regardless of the type of school, teachers must be
committed to improving the quality of their lessons, yet there are few
opportunities to learn how to do so. In this SIG, members with diverse
backgrounds come together to design better lessons. We share our teaching
practices and research, engage in group reading, and organize presentations
and workshops at events such as the JACET International Convention and JAAL in
JACET. These events foster in-depth, multifaceted discussions. Although our
study meetings are primarily online, we occasionally meet in person to foster
camaraderie and participate in casual activities. We actively welcome
proposals from members regarding the content of our activities. We look
forward to the participation of many teachers, regardless of their affiliation
or chapter membership.
