１．研究会の概要
「海外の外国語教育」研究会は、英語に限らず広く外国語（異言語）教育全般、さらに広くことばの教育全般を研究対象とします。教育政策、教育行政、カリキュラム、教科書制度、教員養成、教員研修、評価システムなど、海外の教育政策を調査、分析し、日本に資する点を考察します。
２．2023年度の活動報告
2023年度の活動は、テーマ「ヨーロッパの外国語教育の現状と課題」～日本の英語教育の再生にむけて：教育環境、教授法などの問題点を探る～」とし、2024年度中に報告書の出版を目指した。
研究会はオンラインで開催し、計4回の例会を開催した。
さらに、JACET東アジア英語教育研究会・言語政策研究会・海外の外国語教育研究会の共催研究会発表（大場）、JACET国際大会でシンポジウム発表（二五・米崎・松浦・杉谷・大場）、JACET関西支部講演会で発表（杉谷・大場）を行った。研究会の内容は、海外を中心に日本も含め様々な現場の状況を調査研究し、その報告を行なった。具体的な発表テーマは以下の通りである。

3．2024年度の活動報告
2024年度の活動は、2023年度に引き続き、テーマ「ヨーロッパの外国語教育の現状と課題」～日本の英語教育の再生にむけて：教育環境、教授法などの問題点を探る～」とし、報告書の出版を目指した。

さらに、JACET国際大会でシンポジウム発表（二五・米崎里・米崎啓和・植松・高坂）、JAAL in JACETでポスター発表（大場・西川）を行った。

4. 2025年度の活動予定
引き続き諸外国及び日本の外国語教育の現状と課題を調査・報告する活動を2025年度も引き続き行う。研究会会員同士の成果を発表する場でもある例会を年4回程度（5月、10月、1月、3月を予定）開催する。第64回JACET国際大会でシンポジウムを予定しています。また、必要に応じて、同じテーマに興味をもった研究会会員同士でつながりをもち、共同作業、共同発表を行うことも促します
2025年度JACET国際大会には、本研究会の研究成果をポスターで発表予定。また、今年度は下記題名で出版を予定している。テーマ「ヨーロッパの外国語教育の現状と課題～日本の英語教育の再生にむけて：教育環境、教授法などの問題点を探る～」（仮題）

「海外の外国語教育研究会」は大学英語教育学会（JACET)関西支部の分科会（SIG）です。 本研究会は「英語」に限らず広く「外国語」教育全般、さらに広く「言語」教育全般を研究対象とします。また幼稚園・保育園、小学校、中高等学校など、広い範囲での外国語教育、さらに広く言語教育に関心をもち、大学英語教育に留まらずより広い範囲を研究の対象としています。ご関心のある方は是非お問い合わせ下さい。

1. Main Theme
The SIG “Research on Foreign Language Education Abroad” explores not only English but also foreign (non-native) language education more broadly, and even more broadly, the education of language as a whole. The group investigates and analyzes foreign education policies, including curriculum design, textbook systems, teacher training and professional development, assessment systems, educational administration, and policymaking. Through these studies, the SIG aims to identify insights and practices that can contribute to language education in Japan.
2. Our Research Activities in 2023
The theme of our 2023 activities was “The Current Situation and Challenges of Foreign Language Education in Europe – Toward the Revitalization of English Education in Japan: Exploring Issues in the Educational Environment and Teaching Methods.” We aimed to publish a report on this theme during the 2024 academic year.
The SIG held four regular meetings online throughout the year.
In addition to these, we presented at several collaborative events:
A joint study session with the JACET East Asia English Education SIG, the Language Policy SIG, and the Foreign Language Education Abroad SIG (Ōba)

3. Our Research Activities in 2024
In the 2024 academic year, continuing from 2023, the theme of our activities was “The Current Situation and Challenges of Foreign Language Education in Europe – Toward the Revitalization of English Education in Japan: Exploring Issues in the Educational Environment and Teaching Methods.” Our goal was to compile and publish a report on this theme.
We held four regular online meetings (two of which were limited to editorial board members and contributing authors for the publication).
In addition, we gave a symposium presentation at the 63rd JACET International Convention (Nigo, Sato Yonezaki, Hirokazu Yonezaki, Uematsu, and Kosaka) and a poster presentation at JAAL in JACET (Ōba and Nishikawa).
Our research examined a variety of educational contexts, primarily overseas but including Japan, and we reported on our findings. The specific presentations were as follows:

4. Plans for 2025
In the 2025 academic year, we will continue our activities investigating and reporting on the current situation and challenges of foreign language education both in other countries and in Japan. We plan to hold approximately four regular meetings (tentatively scheduled for May, October, January, and March), which will also serve as a platform for SIG members to present their research findings.
A symposium presentation is also scheduled for the 64th JACET International Convention. In addition, we encourage members who share common interests in the same theme to connect and engage in collaborative work or joint presentations as needed.
At the 2025 JACET International Convention, we plan to present the outcomes of this SIG’s research in the form of a poster presentation. Furthermore, we are planning to publish a book this year under the tentative title:
“The Current Situation and Challenges of Foreign Language Education in Europe – Toward the Revitalization of English Education in Japan: Exploring Issues in the Educational Environment and Teaching Methods.”
5. Message to Prospective Members
This SIG is part of the Kansai Chapter of the Japan Association of College English Teachers (JACET). This SIG does not limit its scope to English but focuses broadly on foreign language education, and even more broadly, language education as a whole. Our research interests extend across a wide range of educational settings, including kindergartens, nursery schools, elementary schools, junior and senior high schools—beyond the confines of university-level English education.
