１．研究会の概要
「英語教育を人間教育の立場から考える」という観点に立ち，英語教育学・英語学研究者の視点と英米文学研究者の視点の双方から、大学英語教育における効果的な文学教材の使用を研究している。
２．2021年度の活動報告
例年は4月、6月、10月、12月の4回、同志社大学烏丸キャンパス、今出川キャンパスにおいて、主として第４土曜日の午後に開催してきたが、2021年度はコロナの影響で、4月、6月、10月、12月の4回、ZOOMによるオンラインで例会を開催した。

The Study Group for Literature in Language Education, in line with its approach to language learning as an aspect of cultural enrichment, promotes the use of literature as a way to make English language education more relevant to the human experience of the student. In pursuit of this goal our members employ a wide variety of methodologies, including English literary criticism, English pedagogy, and English philology. The formal activities of the Study Group center on the presentation of research papers and practical reports relating to the classroom use of literature and the acquisition of related skills such as reading. The Study Group also encourages individual projects in areas ranging from English teaching methods to pure research in English and American literature.
2. Summary of Activities in 2022
The meetings were focused on English language education methodologies, including English literary criticism, English pedagogy, and English philology, and were held online on the 4th Saturday in April, June, October, December, February. For details, please visit our web site.
3. Plans for 2023
The online meetings are scheduled in April and October. The meeting dates and style may be changed. We have also launched a new publishing project this year.
4. Message to Prospective Members
The membership of the Study Group for Literature in Language Education presently stands at more than fifty, ensuring lively contributions and active discussions at every meeting. The meetings are followed by informal get-togethers where the members can exchange views in a relaxed atmosphere. Anyone interested in the effective use of literature for the teaching of English is welcome.
