１．研究会の概要
教材開発研究会では、「教材開発のための理論的基盤の構築」と「大学生の需要に応えられ、さらに時代の要請に沿った英語教育素材についての検討・設計・開発」を二本柱のテーマとして活動しています。理論的基盤構築のためには、会員やゲストスピーカーによるオンライン講演会を実施しています。さらに、英語教育素材の開発として、出版を目指した大学生向け教科書の設計・作成に取り組んでいます。
２．2021年度の活動報告
2021年度では、会員やゲストスピーカーによるオンライン講演会とJACET関連の学会での発表が主な活動内容でした。「マスキュリニティ問題とアメリカ映画」國友万裕先生、「映画映像コーパスと動画辞典とスピーキングの接点/ 娯楽映画を高品質教材に変身させる方法/ 紙教材との融合へ」田淵龍二先生、「大学生にとって最良の英語学習教材 CNN」朝日出版社編集部などにより、教材の多様性や可能性についての知見、洞察を得られました。さらに、JACET創立60周年記念ウィーク『JACET Hours』に於ける発表「過去、現在を未来に繋げる教材開発・研究の在り方」や第4回JAAL in JACET学術交流集会に於ける発表「教材開発とリメディアル教材についての一考察」等、全国大会のSIG枠での研究発表にも参加し、当研究会の活動紹介や教材関連の発表を行いました。
３. 2022年度の活動予定
2022年度も、理論的基盤構築のために会員やゲストスピーカーによるオンライン講演会を実施致しました。「経験サンプリング法による大学生の授業外における英語使用と英語学習の必要性を探る」田口達也先生、「嫌いの英語は dislike って本当？ — 探求的授業のすすめ」田淵龍二先生により、英語教育や教材開発に関する有意義な情報を共有して戴きました。さらに、英語教育素材開発に関する活動として、大学生向けプレゼンテーション教材の開発にも取り組んでいます。このため、2022年度からの例会ではオンライン会議やメールによる執筆者同士の意見共有が中心となり、活発な情報交換が行われました。
４．2023年度の予定
2023年度も、会員やゲストスピーカーによるオンライン講演会や英語教育素材開発を継続していきます。大学生向けプレゼンテーション教材は具体的な作成段階に入り、さらに原稿に対する綿密な考察や検討を重ねていきます。また、会員のコンセンサスに基づき、新しいプロジェクトの企画にも取り組む所存です。
5．新入会希望者へのメッセージ
多くのJACET会員の皆様は教員として、授業内で様々な工夫を凝らしたタスクやアクティビティを展開されていると思います。そのアイディアを教材化し、出版しませんか。授業実践におけるアイディアを体系化し、それを教材として纏め、出版することにより、教材を使用される全国の教員に独自のアイディアや自作の文章を発表し、共有することができるのです。教材の企画から出版に至るまでのプロセスやノウハウを体得することは授業実践や教授法開発にも役立ちます。例会はオンラインで実施していますので、地域や経験を問わず、熱意のある会員の先生方のご参加をお待ちしております。

1. Main Theme
The Material Design and Development SIG has two main themes: “Building a theoretical foundation for the development of teaching materials” and “Researching, designing, and developing English teaching materials that meet the demands of university students and the needs of the times”. To build a theoretical foundation, we hold online lectures by our members and guest speakers. Furthermore, we are designing and producing textbooks for university students with the aim for publishing them.
2. Summary of Activity in 2021
In FY2021, our main activities were online lectures by members and guest speakers and presentations at JACET-related conferences. The following lecturers provided insights into the diversity and possibilities of teaching materials: Kazuhiro KUNITOMO (Doshisha University); Ryuji TABUCHI (Mint Applications Inc.); and the Asahi Press editorial department. We also gave a presentation titled How to develop and research teaching materials that connect the past, present and future in the SIG framework of the National Conference at JACET Hours for the 60th anniversary of JACET, and a presentation titled A study on the development of teaching materials and remedial materials at the 4th JAAL in JACET Academic Exchange Meeting. In these presentations, we introduced the activities of our study group and our teaching materials.
2. Summary of Activity in 2022
In FY2022, we continued our efforts to build a theoretical foundation with online lectures by our members and guest speakers. The lecturers were Tatsuya TAGUCHI (Aichi University of Education) and Ryuji TABUCHI (Mint Applications Inc.). They shared some valuable insights on English education and the development of teaching materials. In addition, currently we are working on the development of presentation materials for university students. For this reason, from 2022 onward we have been actively exchanging opinions among authors through online meetings and e-mails.
3. Plan for 2023
In FY2023, we will continue to hold online lectures by members and guest speakers and develop English teaching materials. The presentation materials for university students are now in the development stage, and we will continue to give further thought and consideration to the manuscripts. We also intend to start a new project based on consensus among our members.
4. Message to Prospective Members
We assume that many JACET members have developed a variety of creative tasks and activities for their classes as teachers. We thought, why don’t we turn those ideas into teaching materials and publish them? By organizing ideas for classroom practice, compiling them into teaching materials, and publishing them, we will be able to present and share our original ideas and writings with teachers all over the country who use our teaching materials. These experiences will also be useful for classroom practice and the development of teaching methods. Our meetings are held online, and we look forward to meeting enthusiastic teachers.
