3. タイトル: 英語学習文法研究と例文データベースの構築

4. 講師: 滝沢 直宏 先生 (立命館大学大学院言語教育情報研究科)

(イリノイ大学でPh.D.（言語学）を取得後、名古屋大学に奉職。現在、立命館大学・大学院言語教育情報研究科教授、立命館大学・国際言語文化研究所所長。名古屋大学名誉教授。研究テーマは「現代日英語の語法・文法および語彙と文法の相互依存性」「コロケーションおよびその研究方法」など)

5. 講演概要：英語の語法文法を研究しようとする場合、それが科学的な英語学研究であれ、英語学習文法の研究であれ、その前提として現代英語の実態をよく知る必要がある。そのためには、現代英語の読み物から語法、文法、表現の観点において興味深い事例を記録にとどめ、どのような点で興味深いのかを分析的に考えながら、「例文データベース」を構築していくことが有益であると考えている。本講演では、そのデータベース構築の実態の一端を、興味深い例を挙げながら示す。併せて、「正規表現」が、英語の語法、文法、表現を研究し、言葉のメカニズムを解明する上でどのように利用可能なのかに関しても簡単に触れる。

3. Title: Creating a Database of Linguistically Interesting Examples for the Study of English Pedagogical Grammar

4. Lecturer: TAKIZAWA Naohiro, PhD (Graduate School of Language Education and Information Science, Ritsumeikan University)

Naohiro Takizawa received his PhD in Linguistics from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. After working at Nagoya University, he is currently Professor of Graduate School of Language Education and Information Science, Director of International Institute of Language and Culture Studies at Ritsumeikan University and Professor Emeritus at Nagoya University. His research interests include “Grammar and Usage of Modern Japanese and English and the Interdependence of Lexicon and Grammar” and “Collocation and its Research Methods.”

5. Abstract: When we conduct research (purely linguistic or pedagogical) on grammar and usage of the English language, we need to carefully examine how English is actually used. For this purpose, we need to peruse naturally used English as much as possible and, in the course of reading, collect (linguistically and pedagogically) interesting examples. In this lecture, the importance of constructing a database of interesting examples will be discussed. Further, how to assign appropriate linguistic tags for characterizing the examples for rigorous analysis will also be explored. The usefulness of “regular expressions” for the study of English will be briefly touched upon.
